Guidance

This is an important announcement to all Grade 12 students. Guidance Counsellors will be visiting all Grade 12 4U English classes to distribute important information about applying to University. These visits will take place next Tuesday + Wednesday October 28th + 29th. If you are not currently taking English, you must arrange to attend one of these classes. The schedule of visits will be posted in the Guidance Office.

Guidance

This is a reminder that the Ontario Universities Fair takes place begining today and going untill sunday. It takes place at the Toronto Convention Centre, south building at 222 Bremmer Blvd, on Friday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm Saturday and Sunday. This is your opportunity to talk to reps from all 21 Ontario Universities. All students and parents, from all grades, are invited.

This announcement is for All students in grade 12. Every grade 12 student is asked to complete the blue "Post Secondary Release" form available in the Guidance office. Even if you do not attend to apply College or University this year, we4 need a form completed. If you plan on woeking after high school or you plan to return to ECI for a 5th year, we still need a completed Blue form. All grade 12 students should come to the Guidance office to complete one of these forms, if you have not already done so.

Guidance

This annoncement is for all students in grade 12. Evvery grade 12 student is asked to complete the blue Post SecondaryRelease form avaliable in guidance office. Even if you do not inted to apply for Colloge or University this year, we need a form completed. If yoou plan a working after high school or you plan to return to ECI for 55th year, we still need a complete blue form. All grade12 Students should come to the Guidence office to complete one of these forms, if you have not already do so.

Important information about timetable changes

To all students who may require a timetable change for academic reasons such as courses taken during the summer or to fulfill requirements for post-secondary education:

Students requiring timetable changes may visit Student Services from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2 and will be seen on a first-come first-serve basis.

After Tuesday, students still requiring timetable changes may pick up a number in Student Services on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. each morning. They will be called out of a class to be seen by a guidance counsellor during the day to discuss these changes.

Counsellors will also be available on Wednesday September 3 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. to make timetable changes for grade 11 and 12 students and on Thursday September 4 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. to make timetable changes for grade 9 and 10 students.

Timetable changes will not be considered after the first week of school. Students may still drop courses to a minimum of six classes.

To all students who have applied to an Ontario university:

The last date to respond to an offer of admission is May 28. Do not wait until that date to try to respond online as it will be very busy and your response may not get through on time.

This is your LAST CHANCE to vote for your valedictorian.

If you were absent or have no homeroom, ballots are available in Student Services.

The count is very close so your vote is important to your candidate.

Scholarship opportunity

The Nigel Williams award for personal strength and courage recognizes students who show personal strength in overcoming physical or emotional challenges during their high school years. IF you are willing to share your story with the award committee, please apply for this scholarship. See Ms. Ison for more information.

Scholarship opportunity

The Brendan Ford Memorial Scholarship is worth $4,000 and is awarded to a student going to College or University who has a financial need and who has demonstrated a commitment to social justice through volunteer work in the community. If you qualify, see Ms. Ison by tomorrow--Friday, May 16.

The Mon Sheong Foundation Scholarship is awarded to students based on marks, community involvement, leadership, sportsmanship, and other commendable traits and talents. Scholarship opportunity

The Abercromie Scholarship is awarded to students from high schools in the former city of Etobicoke. Students must be going to a university, possess a well-rounded personality, have proven scholastic ability in a variety of subjects, demonstrate leadership in the school and community, show good moral character, and be involved and successful in athletics. This scholarship is for $3060.00 and is paid toward your tuition. We can nominate 2 students for this excellent opportunity. You must express your interest to Ms. Ison in Student Services by this Friday, May 9.

The University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine, is holding an Open House on Saturday, May 10 from 8:30-3:30. Everyone is welcome. It is free but they would like an RSVP. See your guidance counsellor for more information.

Have you applied to the University of Guelph for this coming fall? Do you have questions you'd like answered in person? If you answered yes to these questions then come and meet with a rep from the U of Guelph tomorrow, Tuesday, April 29 at 9:30am in the Career Centre. Be sure to sign up in Student Services and take advantage of this opportunity to have your individual and specific questions answered about the U of Guelph and to discuss issues that are important to you.

OSAP presentation

Are you hoping to get a student loan to attend College or University? Do you want to find out about applying for OSAP? Did you know that OSAP stands for the Ontario Student Assistance Program? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may want to attend an information session about getting a student loan?. You must sign up in advance for the presentation which will be on Friday, May 2 at 9:30 am. Sign up in Student Services.

Scholarship opportunity

The Lifestyle and Education Excellence Award is only for students from six West End high schools including ECI. The award is to promote well-rounded students and you must have an 85% average, be taking a minimum of 6 courses in your final year, and have financial need. Only one student from ECI may apply so if you are interested you have until April 21 to see Ms. Ison.

"Careers in Hospitals" career fair

Sunnybrook Hospital and the Toronto District School Board Co-op program are hosting a Career Fair on "Careers in Hospitals." This will take place on Tuesday, May 27 at Sunnybrook Hospital from 3:00 to 6:30 pm. Students and parents are invited to learn about the different careers available in hospitals. You will be able to talk directly to healthcare professionals. For more information, talk to your Guidance Counsellor or see the poster in Student Services.

Scholarship opportunity

The Arya Samaj Markham scholarship is open to students who have at least one parent of Hindu origin and who demonstrate contribution to the Hindu community. You must have an average of at least 80% in Gr 11 & Gr 12 in 5 subjects and be going to College or University. The due date is this Friday, April 18, so come to Student Services to pick up an application.
